"If you're planning to kill Jamal Woods, could I . . ." Gabby asks, with frustrated desire. "Watch? " Caleb smirks. "Just for educational purposes," Gabby adds. "Uh-uh. I mean, not that it wouldn't be fun, you know, showing you the ropes," he replies. "But?" "But if he's undead and with us, he could make it easier getting to Olivia," Caleb explains. "And we'll both enjoy watching Jack squirm as he watches his best friend cross over. . . . Ummm." He ponders the intriguing possibilities. |

| "Well, then, you better be careful," Gabby warns. "The cops have a sketch of you, you know. " Gabby proceeds to tell Caleb that somebody at the Artery Bar remembered Caleb's face when he was there that night talking to the man Gabby had tried to bite. "Oh, well, " Caleb smiles, apparently unconcerned. "It looks like you'll get to do the feeding, I guess." "What? Me? You want me to turn him alone?" Gabby says, her voice a mixture of surprise, panic, and perhaps excitement at being selected for this honor. "Just mingle your blood with Jamal's," Caleb reassures her. "Infect him the way I infected you. Then he'll be mine to control." "But how?" Gabby asks, overwhelmed with this challenge. "How? Caleb purrs seductively as he kisses her neck and nibbles at her ears. "You are a sexy, beautiful young woman. You don't need me, Gabriella. Just be irresistible---and I know you know how to do that. I saw your number at the Nurses' Ball. Just bring him to me, and I will be very, very grateful." |

| Just as Gabby is again thrilling to his kisses, Caleb suddenly pulls back and walks dismissively away, disappearing into the misty night, leaving Gabby aroused, yearning, and desperately, agonizingly in love. |

| Driven by her unattainable desire to prove herself worthy of his affection, Gabby, as always, does Caleb's bidding, luring Jamal into Caleb's trap while Caleb lurks in the alley, overseeing his plan and glancing with eerie delight at the stormy night sky. |
