| "Naked Eyes" #8 (cont.) With a burst of smoke, the stage seems momentarily to explode, but then, through the sulfuric fog, he is visible again. “Hello, Port Charles,” he shouts with a defiant, victorious smirk. “I said, ‘hello, Port Charles,’” he repeats, as excited screams drown out the few stealthy hisses of warning uttered by Caleb’s foes. |

| “Caleb Morley, you son of a bitch!” Rafe sputters, as his nemesis onstage introduces himself as Stephen Clay. Ian, still at the hospital after having examined Tess’ DNA results, gasps in horror when he happens to see television coverage of the concert in the park. There, seeming to smile mockingly at all his previous enemies, is Caleb reborn. Panicked, Ian commands the nurse Colleen to go find his infant son, Danny, in the hospital daycare center and keep the baby safe. “Are you going places? See the world through naked eyes. Does the truth bring peace of mind?” Stephen sings, his eyes and words piercing Livvie’s heart as he stares at her. It is her he addresses, her he torments with reminders of her betrayal. “No. No, this can’t be happening,” she gasps in a frightened whisper. “I killed you.” “Are you happy, baby? Are you down with your old friends? Have you spent your common sense?” His lips curl into a snarl of disdain, and she turns away, running from the man she killed, the memories he resurrected. |

| “Clear white lines draw the straightest path to the main street of life that awaits you and leave behind your lies,” he continues, focusing now on Livvie’s untainted twin, Tess. He crouches down upon the stage, reaching out his hand to her, as if across an abyss. “If you wanna walk, babe, I’ll walk with you,” he promises, “To the freak show we created. If you really wanna do . . . ” The rest of these words are obscured by the terrified warnings of Jack to Tess. |

| “Don’t let him touch you,” Jack pleads with Tess as she, spellbound, reaches out towards Stephen.
“No more hiding from the world through naked eyes,” Stephen coaxes. His is the way of revelation, he seems to be saying, the insights of one reborn through an experience of annihilation. He tempts us to traverse the boundaries separating good and evil, to linger amidst the ruins of absolutes no longer relevant to those who have crossed over to the other side. |
