"Naked Eyes" #5 (cont.)

Through this supernatural sleight-of hand trick, Caleb has once again manipulated “reality,” creating an illusion that our rational mind, distrusting in magic, tries to persuade us must be true.    He uses this ruse to escape detection and the feelings his encounter with Livvie have ignited.  To regain control of his plan and make his puppets behave as he wishes, Caleb leaves Joshua in charge of the party and sets his sights on his next target, which happens to be Alison’s flighty, needy, vulnerable mother, Elizabeth.

Arriving at the Port Charles hotel where Elizabeth is staying, Stephen effortlessly begins his seduction.  He sees her sitting alone at the bar, an attractive, vivacious, yet cynical blonde peevishly sipping a drink, and slithers onto the chair next to hers.

“You look like you could use a friend,” he murmurs, giving her a sly smile.

Although Elizabeth sarcastically replies that she has enough friends and doesn’t need any more, Stephen won’t take no for an answer.  Gently yet assertively grasping her arm, he kisses her hand.    “You can never have too many friends,” he remarks.

“No, I guess you can’t,” she agrees, unable to resist his allure.

They kiss, strangers sharing a carnal connection.  Unlike the casual non-monogamous minglers at Stephen’s gala, however, the connection Stephen and Elizabeth will share ends up having serious repercussions on the people of Port Charles. By initiating a self-serving relationship with Elizabeth, in arrogant defiance of his karmic bond with Livvie, Stephen ensnares himself in the web he tries to weave for others.  As in “Tempted,” he, like the people he seduces and torments, is unable to escape the destiny he helped create.
"Naked Eyes" Analysis #6

Casting aside his glittery mask, Caleb hides behind a persona that thrives on anonymous sexual encounters and frenzied adulation, feeding on the lust and devotion he incites without having to reveal his true nature.  Just as we are on the verge of discovering his real identity, he retreats, a mirage vanishing the closer we get to him.

With Alison’s mother, Elizabeth, Caleb is, at first, a sexy, black-leather-clad stranger who quickly seduces her into bed without disclosing his name or anything about himself.    They kiss ravenously, animals craving each other’s touch, scent, taste, and as they clawingly embrace in a savage mating dance, she feels the throbbing urgency pulse between them.  He thrusts himself forward and her slender, pliant body yields, letting him support her while they move, interlocked, towards her hotel room.

“I don’t usually do this,” she tells him breathlessly.

“You’re doing just fine,” he murmurs, his body slamming her against the door of her room.   As he fumbles with the doorknob, her legs straddle his groin, riding him.  With one hand he opens the door; with the other, he lifts her, still enwrapped around him, and carries her into the room.   They collapse, entangled, upon the bed, and satisfy their lust.
