| “Hey, I love this place, man,” Caleb smirks. “I’m actually thinking about taking you up on that membership.” |

| “Right, in other words you’re going to stay here until we hash out what happened with Alison and Livvie, right?” Rafe retorts.
“How about you humor me for old times’ sake?” Caleb gibes. |

| “OK, I’ll humor you,” Rafe reluctantly concedes. “I had a feeling from the second you got here, and now I know it’s true. . . . There’s only one thing that could be powerful enough to cause this much trouble and have you sniffing around after it. The ring—that’s what this is all about, isn’t it?”
“It’s a possibility that someone got possession of the ring and, without realizing it, has begun to use it,” Caleb, somewhat hesitantly, confides. “What power does it have?” Rafe, finally ready to confront the problem, demands. “Because I’d like to know what we’re up against here.” “Let’s put it this way,” Caleb says with understated ominousness, “if Joshua had known how to use it, you and I wouldn’t be standing here right now.” |

| “You know what?” Rafe blusters, masking his fear with anger and defiance. “If somebody else has it, fine. Let them keep it because I’d rather take my chances with them than you.” Without waiting for Caleb to reply, Rafe walks away.
Heading back to the pre-opening festivities, Caleb again encounters Elizabeth. Now that Livvie is preoccupied elsewhere, Caleb can tauntingly flirt with his not-quite-ex-wife without igniting Livvie’s wrath. |
