“Wanting you is going to be the end of me,” he growls.

“No, no, that is such a horrible thing to say,” she whines in the same hurt, self-pitying tone she had used with her father and Jack.  “You didn’t mean that.”

“Yeah, I did,” he emphasizes, starting to walk away, but she clutches at him, bringing him back.

“No, no, Caleb, please!” she implores.  “If something feels so good, how can it be so bad, huh?  It feels good.”
“See this?” Caleb sneers, placing her hand upon his chest, positioning her fingers at the spot where she stabbed him.  “You destroyed me once before, and that’s something I’m not exactly dying to experience again.”

“That was the past, and I was confused,” she makes excuses for herself.  “You know I would never betray you again.  You know that.”
“You already did,” he accuses.  “You knew how important that ring was to me.  But, of course, your agenda is always going to be more important.”

“No, I wasn’t thinking clearly, Caleb, please, I wasn’t thinking,” she cries.

“Exactly,” he mutters, his expression grim, punishing.
