Caleb heads towards the woods to perform the ceremony but notices that Livvie is following him.  When he warns her that he has to do this alone, she worriedly asks where he is going and how this relates to getting back the ring.

Softly, in a firm, decisive, yet soothing voice he explains that in order to regain the ring, he must go see the person who knows more about it than anyone else, his father, who just so happens to be in Hell.    “Shh,” he whispers, caressing her face.  “It’s going to be all right. . . . There’s nothing to be afraid of.”
“How can you say that?  You’re talking about going to Hell!” she gasps, understandably concerned about his travel plans.  “Anything could happen there.  What if you unleash something we can’t control?  Or, worse yet, what if they don’t let you come back?”
“Listen to me,” he says, clenching her wrists, almost shaking her with the force of his passion and determination.  “I will do anything to get the ring back, and there’s nothing you can say or do that will stop me.”

“I’m just so scared.  I don’t want to lose you,” she sobs in a forlorn, little-girl voice.

“You won’t,” he soothes, tenderly touching her face.  “You won’t.  You know why?  Because I’d fight my way through a thousand hells to get back to you.  There’s nothing that could keep me away.”
