| "Tempted" Episodes 25-27 (cont.) “All these idle threats, they’re starting to sound a little pathetic,” Rafe comments, provoking Caleb to demonstrate his powers. Raising his hands in invocation and staring at Rafe with the cold, mesmerizing stare of a panther stalking his prey, Caleb summons the forces of the wind. It blows caressingly through Caleb’s hair but lunges against Rafe with a ferocious assault. In retaliation, Rafe raises his arms and sends a telekinetic jolt that pushes Caleb backwards into the bushes. |

| “Now, behave,” Rafe reprimands, like a parent disciplining a naughty child.
Struggling to his feet, Caleb looks with amazement at his uncharacteristically resourceful opponent. “I’ve never seen a slayer with his power,” he remarks. “How is that possible?” “I ask the questions,” Rafe says sternly. “You’re not in control here, not anymore.” “There’s something different about you,” Caleb notes, walking around Rafe, circling and sniffing. “Besides the smell and the atrocious manners. I just can’t quite figure out what it is.” He stands with his hands on his hips. “There’s no way you should have the power that you have.” “This is about you, not me,” Rafe replies, trying to change the subject and shift Caleb’s attention back to the moral lecture Rafe has planned for him. “There’s no room for evil here, not anymore,” he warns, a sense of hesitancy in his voice as he perhaps realizes Caleb is beginning to discover Rafe’s secret. “I would rather cease to exist than hear another one of your whining lectures,” Caleb sneers, echoing his responses to his “brother” Michael’s repeated moralizing. “I’ll keep everyone safe from you if it’s the last thing I do,” Rafe vows, seeming to grow weaker and less assured the more confident Caleb becomes. “And it just might be,” Caleb adds. “But then again, that’s never been the job of a slayer, has it? Saving the world? So what’s changed, Rafe?” “Nothing,” Rafe mumbles. “You believe humans are basically weak, incapable of lasting love. I’m going to prove you wrong.” “Then go ahead. Kill me. Do it,” Caleb taunts. “Staring at me ain’t going to get it done, Rafe. So why aren’t you destroying me right now? Wait . . . I get it now. I was right the first time. I did destroy you.” “I’m going to send you straight back to Hell,” Rafe yells, flustered with embarrassed anger. “That’s why you can’t kill me,” Caleb smirks. “You are dead. I’m talking to a dead man.” |
