"Tempted" Episodes 18-22 (cont.)

“ ‘Our’ family?” Livvie repeats in a disbelieving tone.

“Very soon, Olivia.  We’ll have our revenge and a child to raise.  Our prize, my love.  Our family.  Our child.”

“ ‘Our’ child?”  Livvie again repeats in the same tone.

“I promise you’ll hear from me soon, my love,” Caleb says, ignoring the skepticism and disapproval in her voice.   “But until then, you won’t remember being with me.”

“Won’t remember,” she chants, falling under his hypnotic spell.

“Now hurry.  Go,” he softly commands.

“Yes,” she replies, looking back at him lingeringly as she leaves the cave.

“Good girl, Olivia,” Caleb says patronizingly, as if to a well-behaved puppy.  “Good girl.”  He licks his lips, perhaps anticipating the conflict to re-ignite between Livvie and Jack.

"Tempted": Allure and Menace in Port Charles' "Tempted,"An Analysis (c) by Alison Armstrong
An analysis of the "Tempted" episodes of the show "Port Charles," formerly of ABC-TV. This  site will focus  on the scenes featuring the vampire character Caleb Morley (portrayed by actor Michael Easton).  The character of Caleb Morley and any other characters relating to Port Charles are the property of ABC and their creators.  This is a fan-run site and is not an official site, nor is it affiliated in any way with ABC, Port Charles, or the actors portraying any of the Port Charles characters.  No copyright infringement is intended.   The writings on this site are copyrighted by the author, Alison Armstrong,  and may not be reproduced without the author's express permission.
Caleb lounges regally on his bed of pillows and looks at his fingers, flexing and clenching them. “It won’t be long now before I take whatever pleases me again. The day of reckoning is coming.”   He smiles and looks up at the heavens, seeming to take delight and faith in his biblical words.   Although his “Father Michael” aspect has apparently been vanquished, he still uses the phrases of a preacher—words of hellfire and brimstone, of carnage and destruction.   Seeing himself as the god of retribution, he is confident of his divine vengeance.

As Livvie returns home to see Jack nervously and rather angrily awaiting her arrival, Caleb smirks triumphantly.  The cave walls echo with arrogant laughter as Caleb celebrates another victory.
But Caleb’s celebration is premature.   Although Caleb’s keen perceptions and indomitable will enable him to conquer his adversaries, he lacks the self-insight to see his own weaknesses before it is too late.  The innocence, moderating influence, and human insight of his “Father Michael” aspect has been banished as Caleb seeks to eradicate all traces of humanity and tenderness in himself and everyone else.  Resurrecting from his smoldering ashes, Caleb is a malevolent force seething with hatred, need, and hunger; however, as he gathers strength and form, he also regains a portion of his more human qualities, such as love and trust, lingering attributes of his "Father Michael" persona and pre-vampire existence that he cannot completely eradicate.  Caleb fails to heed the smothered warnings of his once-acknowledged Father Michael side, the voice of self-awareness and caution.    Instead, Caleb buries “Father Michael” yet unknowingly is doomed by the human traits he refuses to admit he has.   These despised characteristics, combined with his reckless arrogance and his corruption of Livvie's loving heart, bring about his ruin.
