“I vow it to you, Sweet Olivia,” he promises.  “The next time we meet, you’ll see more of me.  But until
then . . . ''

“What happened?  What’s wrong?” she sighs.

“Nothing’s wrong,” he responds.

“I just. . . I just feel so tired,” Livvie complains.

“Then sleep, my love,” he says soothingly.  “Sleep.  And when you awake, you’ll have no memory of any of this.”

“I won’t . . . “ Livvie mumbles and sinks into sleep.  She drifts also into forgetfulness as Caleb erases the memories of her experience with him at the cave.  Her conscious mind blocks out what her subconscious has compelled her to do, thereby absolving her from a sense of guilt for seeking Caleb.
“I’ll show you what real love is,” Caleb comments, as he watches Livvie sleep and awaits the outcome of his experiment designed to show Livvie the fragility of human love.   When Jack rushes frantically into the cave, Caleb vanishes.

Jack’s subsequent behavior, like that of the other Port Charles residents, confirms Caleb’s theories about human love.  Justifiably upset, puzzled, and concerned when he finds Livvie sleeping in her underwear at Caleb’s lair, Jack begins to doubt Livvie’s claim that she doesn’t know how she got there.  All the jealousy and anger he felt over Livvie’s marriage to Caleb in “Tainted Love” emerges from suppression.  Both Livvie and Jack start to fear that the love they share may not last.  Livvie begs Jack to swear he’ll never stop loving her, and although Jack repeatedly promises his never-ending love, they both realize that their bond is becoming rather strained.

Trying to explain what happened, Livvie tells Jack that her experience is “like a dream or something.”  “I don’t know.  I don’t know.  I’m not making any sense right now.  I
just . . . “   Livvie falters.

“No, you’re wrong,” Jack retorts, a note of exasperation in his voice.  “You’re making a lot of sense, Livvie.  A lot.  And I don’t like the sound of it one little bit.”

As Jack reveals his anger, Caleb stands nearby, witnessing the results of his experiment.  He makes a gesture with his fingers to his mouth, as if blowing a kiss goodbye, signaling perhaps the beginning of the end for Jack and Livvie’s relationship.
